Captain Beaver entered the Navy as a NROTC Midshipman at Ole Miss where he was commissioned following graduation in 1987.
A Surface Warfare Officer, his command experience includes Destroyer Squadron Twenty-One, the guided missile destroyer USS Bulkeley (DDG 84), and the minesweeper USS Avenger (MCM 1). Prior to command he served in the guided missile cruiser USS Mobile Bay (CG 53), the destroyer USS Ingersoll (DD 990), and the guided missile destroyer USS Conyngham (DDG 17).
Ashore, he served on the National Security Council Staff in the Executive Office of the President, in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, in Deep Blue on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations, in the Office of the Supreme Allied Commander Europe & Commander, U.S. European Command, on the staff of a U.S. Senator, on the staff of Commander, Mine Warfare Command, and as an Instructor on the faculty of the U.S. Naval Academy.
Beaver has earned a Bachelor of Arts in History, a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies. He was a Georgetown University Fellow, a graduate of the Joint Forces Staff College, and the U.S. Naval War College. His awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and various campaign, unit, and service medals.
